Remember when you were a kid, and you put on a big dress, draped your mother's jewelry around your neck, then smeared red lipstick all over your face and danced around like you were the belle of the ballet? Well, Rachel Antonoff will let you re-live these moments--but as a grown up. Her Spring '10 collection, is fit for an inner city ballerina. Meaning you can dance around in these clothes in your apartment, but also wear them on the subway without getting strange looks. See more of our favorites from Rachel Antonoff Spring '10 below.
Chanel (the Haute Couture segment) wants you to know that they always pay attention to the details. Their new S/S '10 promotional video is a beautiful palette of soft pink, crystal, lights and perfection. The Chanel models--who have as much life as a stick of gum--stand stark as the camera slowly films the beautiful feminine outfits. Spooky, yet striking. Plus, all the models have heart shaped hair! (How could we not be into that.)
Anna Zeman and Aja Singer of Alex and Eli make men’s clothing--for women. Inspired by the swagger of classic men’s suiting, the New York-based line, marries masculine looks with flirtatious school-girl energy. A shared background in science (both initially considered careers in medicine) is reflected in their logical, clear-cut S/S '10 collection. You can just picture Zeman and Singer poring over measurements with a magnifying glass in one hand, ruler in the other, fine tuning every last seam. Omitting superfluous frills in favour of simplicity, Alex & Eli is very New York, all refined elegance with a tomboy spirit--kind of like what you imagine Jil Sander making if she hung out with Kim Gordon and drank PBRs. Currently on the road as part of Parlor showroom’s guerrilla-style trunk show, Alex & Eli, is hitting 17 States in a fully stocked RV all month. See our favorites from the S/S '10 collection below.
Dieppa Restrepo, is inspired by classic men's shoes, making them elegant enough for a gentleman, but more importantly, a woman. However, the androgynous unisex label, makes us want to cry and stomp around until we get a pair onto our feet. Let the immaturity begin!
Clubhouse Pouch and Snack Pack. As you may already know, we love LeSportsac's Artist in Residence program (we even featured the late heir, Fifi Lapin, in our first issue of hearty), and in lieu of spring fever, LeSportsac introduces us to Katharina Leuzinger. Born from Swiss and Japanese parents, raised in Zurich, and schooled in London, Katharina has so much culture buzzing through her veins, we think we'd swoon over anything she creates. For this season, Katharina introduces some new patterns to some of our favorite styles, including House Boat, Heart House Graphic, Snakville and Treehouse. Our favorite combinations include the hearty eyed octopus Boat House pattern on the Double Trouble Tote, the Clubhouse Pouch and all the Snack Packs! See more of the new Katharina Leuzinger LeSportsac collection below.
Hop aboard! Currently touring with LCD Soundsystem, YACHT is sweeping the world converting people into fans one port at a time. And Jona and Claire, the co-captains of the ship, want everyone to hop on for the ride. In our new The Cover Story, Editor-in-Chief Hana May, talks to the leading lady of YACHT, Claire, about the duo being control freaks, their cosmic connection with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, their personal relationship and the importance of the theatrical aspect of a show. We caught up with YACHT again, in Montreal Canada, and kidnapped them for a day of fashion and photos, styled by our very own, Charlotte Eedson, and snapped by photographer, Gordon Ball. See the light here.
