Obama supports gay marriage and Jay-Z does too

Jay-Z has always been a favorite, whether it comes to his music, wifey choice or just overall swag. And now he’s a favorite of ours, when it comes to his politics as well. In a recent interview with CNN, Jay-Z said he always felt restriction on gay marriage was something that held America back and in the privacy of your own home you can choose to love whoever you love. “It’s no different than discriminating against Blacks. It’s discrimination, plain and simple,” Jay-Z told the reporter. “It’s the right to do as a human being.” Everyone start a Hova chant.

Watch the video of Jay-Z speaking about his support of Obama and gay marriage below.

Have our dreams finally come true?!

No one wants a hangover. No one. And now, French designer Philippe Starck has teamed up with French American scientist David Edwards to create a spray that makes you drunk instantly. WA|HH Quantum Sensations is an alcohol aerosol spray that looks like a lipstick and dispenses 0.075 ml of alcohol—the minimum amount you need for the alcohol microparticles to stimulate the brain. Edwards claims, due to the design of Starck’s container, the drunkenness is instant and full–minus the hangover. Each bottle delivers 20-25 sprays, and is set to hit European shelves soon for about 20 Euro ($26 USD).

It almost seems too good to be true, but this is only the latest creation in the line of what Edwards and Starck call “aerosol cuisine.” These geniuses have already created a chocolate spray called “Le Whif.” Get wasted and indulge on chocolate. No regrets.

Tom Sachs is opening a new exhibit and made some Nike stuff to help celebrate

Sculptor, installation artist, and painter, Tom Sachs first attempted a mission to the moon in 2007. Taking inspiration from man’s first landing on the moon in 1969, he launched his SPACE PROGRAM at the Gagosian Gallery in Los Angeles. Coinciding with the opening of his new exhibit SPACE PROGRAM: Mars at the Park Armory in New York, Sachs, who is known for renaming, examination, and questioning of icons of capitalist culture and systems of daily life, is testing iterations of a new sneaker.

The capsule collection from Nike and Tom Sachs is titled NIKEcraft and includes: The Mars Yard Shoe, the Trench, The Marsfly Jacket, and the Lightweight Tote. Astronauts, like athletes, must go through rigorous training before embarking on their missions and each piece in the Nike and Tom Sachs capsule collection packs enough functionality it technically could go into space with you. Mars perhaps?

Tom Sachs new exhibit SPACE PROGRAM: Mars opens at the Park Avenue Armory this Wednesday May 16 and runs until June 17. For now, see pieces from the Tom Sachs NIKEcraft collection below.

Andre 3000’s got some big Hendrix shoes to fill, but when?

There’s been lots of rumors flying around about Andre 3000 playing Jimi Hendrix in a new biopic. And now it’s for sure. The Irish Film & Television Network has confirmed that Mr. 3000 is set to play Hendrix in an upcoming biopic called All by My Side, to be directed by John Ridley (screenwriter behind U-Turn) and produced by Darko Entertainment, Subotica Entertaiment and Matador Pictures. The film will focus on Hendrix’s breakthrough moments in London in 1966 and 1967, and use archival footage from Hendrix’s days.

All by My Side is an ambitious project that Hendrix’s legacy deserves, but there are problems. Experience Hendrix, LLC–the family-owned company that holds all the rights for Hendrix’s music–hasn’t signed off on the project. They are refusing to let the film companies use Hendrix’s original music in the soundtrack without their approval. On Thursday, May 10th they said in a statement: “Experience Hendrix, LLC, the family-owned company entrusted with safeguarding the legacy of Jimi Hendrix and administrator of the Jimi Hendrix music and publishing catalog has made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation.”

Sounds like someone’s feeling a little uninvited to the party. Clearly, they do not want this thing to happen without their approval. So now, the whole project is a little rocky. Will a biopic about Jimi be made without his actual music? Will the project be indefinitely postponed until the production companies and Experience Hendrix reach a comfortable agreement? What sort of role (and paycheck) will Experience Hendrix, LLC require to get this thing going?

James Nizam makes light his bitch

The smartass who told you, you can’t see light itself but only the effects of light is wrong and James Nizam can prove it. Nizam creates installations by cutting little slits into rooftops and lets sunlight do the rest. Turning light into art, through carefully arranging Nizam creates a geometric instillation of light beams that run entirely on natural light. We’re pretty sure the last time someone had this type of influence over the sun it was the Greek God Apollo.

Nizam’s photographed his sunlight instillation and titled it “Trace of Heavens.”

See more of Nizam’s process and “Trace of Heavens” below.
