Get Fed__ Why You Need To Try This Neon Superfood

Your Instagram feed has probably been flooded with this neon fruit this summer, from bright pink smoothies to colorful fruit bowls. But what actually is pitaya?

Pitaya, also known as dragon fruit, is a tropical fruit that comes from a cactus. The flavor is lightly sweet, sort of like a blend of a kiwi and pear. The small, edible seeds make this fruit full of fiber and great for digestion.

Brightly colored skin indicates that a fruit is full of powerful nutrients, and the dragon fruit is no exception. Dragon fruit contains lots of Vitamin C, calcium for strong bones, healthy fatty acids, protein and B vitamins to give you an energy boost. The lycopene that makes this fruit bright pink has been linked to lowering the risk of cancer.

Each dragon fruit only contains about 60 calories and is full of antioxidants, so hop on the pitaya bandwagon and make yourself a dragon fruit smoothie for breakfast this morning.
