While hydrating before you hit the gym is important, drinking water throughout your workout is also a good way to make sure that you won’t cramp up.
Running to the vending machine to grab some candy every hour? Try sipping on some water instead. Dehydration makes it hard for your body to release glycogen into your energy stores, which basically means that you’ll start craving food, especially sweets, when you’re not actually hungry. If you do find yourself craving sweets, try eating some fruit – it will satisfy your craving and help hydrate you since fruit is mostly water.
If you’re constantly canceling plans to stay home and nurse your throbbing head, make a point to drink more water, especially when you’re out for drinks. Every time you finish a drink, have a glass of water to make sure you’re staying hydrated. The next morning, you’ll find that you don’t have a pounding headache for once.
There’s a reason you’re supposed to drink broth and OJ when you’re feeling under the weather; you want to be getting as many fluids as possible. But hydrating yourself doesn’t just help you get over an illness; it can also prevent it from happening in the first place.
