Get Healthy__ Not Drinking Enough Water Is Making You Not So Awesome At Life

September 14, 2015 | By

When you think about things that help you function well throughout the day, you probably think about food, coffee and sleep. But staying hydrated is just as important when it comes to keeping you going as eating is. Here are just a few of the problems you could be experiencing from not drinking enough water. So #DrinkUp.

Memory
If you’re always walking into a room and forgetting why you came or can’t seem to ever remember that one coworker’s name, dehydration could be to blame. When you’re dehydrated, your short term memory is almost immediately affected.

Muscle Cramping
If you’re prone to cramped muscles, you’ve probably been told a hundred times to eat a banana. But the real problem could be that you’re not drinking enough water prior to your workout. While hydrating before you hit the gym is important, drinking water throughout your workout is also a good way to make sure that you won’t cramp up.

Craving Sweets
Running to the vending machine to grab some candy every hour? Try sipping on some water instead. Dehydration makes it hard for your body to release glycogen into your energy stores, which basically means that you’ll start craving food, especially sweets, when you’re not actually hungry. If you do find yourself craving sweets, try eating some fruit – it will satisfy your craving and help hydrate you since fruit is mostly water.

Headaches
If you’re constantly canceling plans to stay home and nurse your throbbing head, make a point to drink more water, especially when you’re out for drinks. Every time you finish a drink, have a glass of water to make sure you’re staying hydrated. The next morning, you’ll find that you don’t have a pounding headache for once.

Immune System
There’s a reason you’re supposed to drink broth and OJ when you’re feeling under the weather; you want to be getting as many fluids as possible. But hydrating yourself doesn’t just help you get over an illness; it can also prevent it from happening in the first place.

Like we said above, #DrinkUp.
