There’s a new grain on shelves and it’s ready to replace your beloved quinoa. Freekeh is some sort of happy accident that, was discovered in the Middle East when a field of young green wheat caught on fire. While everything was mostly charred, the grain left inside the wheat took on smoky flavor and became what we today call freekeh.

Now, the superfood is harvested young, then lightly roasted to get that smoky and nutty flavor discovered in the fire.

In a head-to-head comparison with quinoa, freekeh has more protein and twice as much fiber. Not to mention it’s low in fat and keeps you full for long periods of time. Plus it's high in iron, calcium and zinc, the grain acts as a prebiotic and promotes healthy digestion. Sorry quinoa. Hi freekeh.
