October 12, 2011 | By

Screw what's happening for s/s '12, we go way back to the ’92 runways. Above a Thierry Mugler look.

1992-Kurt married Courtney, Wayne’s World partied on for the first time, and MTV's Real World debuted. Most of us were probably watching Disney on VHS or just warming up to the idea of boys. In fashion, it was the year of the big six: Kate, Christy, Naomi, Claudia, Cindy, Linda. Gisele Bundchen was just a wee one. Karl Lagerfeld still had grey hair, and models smoked while they strutted.

So, as the world turns to the s/s '12 runways, we look back 20 years to '92. On the streets it was plaid and tees but on the runways, the trends were sleek satin with deep v-necks, metallic, and cropped tops with crazy detailing. The season also hailed chunky necklaces and high slits.

Twenty years later, these looks are making a come back--tribal is in, and so is the cropped top. Dying hair unnatural colors is also having its welcome home party. And we may even be saying hello to chokers.
