News__ Every Era Builds Character

"I'm not ready for a convent or anything so I can wear leopard glasses."

As young girls, we can remember sifting through our grandmother's costume jewelry and scarves. (Maybe we still do it.) And as a whole, fashion has often tried to replicate the way our grandmothers curate themselves--an overstated broach here, a layer of velvet there, a coral shade of lipstick. Older women possess a type of elegance that comes exclusively with age. But, no matter how hard you try, a pretty young thing can never pull off a leopard print turban the way a 90-year-old fashionista can.

Ari Cohen's blog Advanced Style is an ode to the silver haired doyennes of the New York fashion world. For Nowness, Cohen has partnered with Director Lina Plioplyte to create a video homage to iconic women like the orange-lashed Ilona Royce Smithkin, and the ever-chic textile mogul Iris Apfel. Advanced Style: Age and Beauty shows us how personal style can be improved with every year of our lives, especially when paired with the grace (and humor) these incredible women possess.

In the words of Jean of Idiosyncratic Fashionistas: "Young women, you're going to be an old woman some day. Don't worry about it. Every era builds character."
