News__ ECO-CHIC AA Re-Up

| By

We told you before that American Apparel launched a new line of "eco-chic" custom-made nail polish, free of DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde. (According to Treehugger, DBP is harmful to reproduction, exposure can result in "smaller penis sizes and undescended or incompletely descended testicles," while toluene (responsible for that fresh toxic smell) and formaldehyde effect breathing, the nervous system and cause eye, nose and throat irritation.) But the eco-friendly polish is slowly being removed from the shelves. First for "quality issues with the glassware" and now employees are saying it is considered a "hazardous material."

Later, A.A. notified the public that the bottles were the problem from "first run glitches." They're willing to reimburse customers who already purchased the "eco-chic" shades. "We will offer an exchange of two new bottles or a $10 giftcard for anyone who brings in a unit from the original run or a receipt." Fair deal.

I work at American Apparel and the issue is actually just in the packaging. The nail polish is totally safe and we’ve been getting tons of feedback about how great it is. AA is really careful with quality, so they just wanted to get the bottle right and make sure the problematic bottles are safely disposed of.
