After the McQueen blockbuster hit, the Met comes up with the perfect follow-up

Sure to be a charged dialogue between two of the most innovative women in the last century of fashion, ‘Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada: On Fashion’ will debut May 10th, 2012 at the Met. The two designers share an inclination towards convention-breaking, while speaking to very different decades. Schiaparelli’s shoe hat and lobster dress were shockingly contemporary from the pre ‘50s era designer (you’ll see what we mean below). And since the 1980s, Miuccia Prada has had her gaze set on the future. “My idea is always to avoid nostalgia,” she says.

The McQueen exhibit, which was the Met's last On Fashion display, made for an enchanted fairytale of monsters, queens, and heavenly creatures. But the Met is now turning the page and onto the next chapter: to tell a story of fearless females with a subversive attitude and a sense of humor. Based on the lineup for McQueen, it's probably best to start queuing for the Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada: On Fashion exhibit now.
