For the first time, women cyclists will race through Paris as part of the Tour de France.

Even though from the 1980s through 2009 there was a race referred to as the women's Tour de France, ladies haven't had an official race since the creation of the Tour de France 110 years ago. This past July things started to change. Four female cyclists put together a petition, which amassed 97,000 signatures. It got the attention of the Tour de France committee.

The new women's Tour de France is being called La Course by Le Tour de France and will take place alongside the men's race. The women will be competing in their own race (not against the males) and the event will be broadcast live, shinning a little more light on female athletes. It's a small win, but definitely a win.
