For plain canvas sneakers we have Vans, Italy has Superga, and France has Bensimon. And Serge and Yves Bensimon have grown Bensimon from an Army Surplus store opened at the end of World War II into a shoe brand, concept store and magazine. Their now famous "La Tennis Bensimon" canvas sneaker was originally adopted by the French fashion community and in 25 years has become a “must have” in women’s wardrobes worldwide.
Putting shoes aside for a second, Bensimon has just released their Fall/Winter '09 clothing collection. Naming the collection "Habits Pour La Vie," Clothing For Life, they have used classic materials and colors, sewn with transparent thread--a subtle signature that gives them "a timeless and contemporary soul."
