News__ “it was hard to draw god”

R. Crumb, illustrator of such notable charactes as Fritz the Cat, Mr. Natural, and that kooky Janis Joplin album cover, just completed, The Book of Genesis. No, silly. Not a book about the band, a book about the first part of the bible.

It's difficult to think of of R. Crumb without thinking of perverse comics about sex, drugs, and sardonic insights, so it seems an uncanny match for him to tackle the bible. When the reclusive artist, who's life was filmed in the award spangled documentary "Crumb," was interviewed about his latest endeavor, he said, "It was hard to draw God." He also mentioned that he used a lot of white out.

You can read the USA today article covering the new Book of Genesis here.
