News__ Kate Moss in Everglade

January 11, 2011 | By

As Kate Moss writhes around on a black leather couch, illustrations of worm-like creatures sit on her chest, smoking, as the ashes fall into her hair. Tornadoes swirl around the couch. Moss' hair changes color like a strobe light. And trees grow from between her legs. Just a normal shoot for Moss, we assume.

Photographers Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin set up surveillance style cameras to capture Moss' performance during the Balmain fall/winter 2010/2011 campaign. Using this footage and cropping it together with illustrations by Jo Ratcliffe, Van Lamsweerde and Matadin created the music video for Antony and The Johnsons' track, "Everglade." Van Lamsweerde said of the project:

“Surrealism is always there in our work, whether it’s in camera or through computer manipulation. We’ve had the idea for this video for some time. We are fascinated with the different realities going on in one shoot and so the music, the animation, Kate’s movements and the camera angle represent these layers of perception.”
