Kelis, is the latest celebrity target of  animal activist group PETA. After recieving a personailzed letter from PETA and its president Ingrid Newkirk, Kelis responded in a MySpace statement saying things like, "Find a worthwhile cause like the women being maimed in these Middle Eastern countries. Or female circumcision. Or women's rights here in America, we still get paid less for doing the same jobs as men." Kelis definitely has no plans on putting down her fur anytime soon, or ever for that matter. Read the full response here. We caught the furry lady at APHEX in Los Angeles last night and she was not wearing any fur--that said, she sure looked fabulous! Check out her latest track with Basement Jaxx after the jump.

    BOSSY!

  2. They might be against fur but they support breed specific laws, not sure how that works in their brains.

Apparently, this is the letter PETA sent to her. Bitch is bossy and maybe a bit crazy. PETA could be just covering their asses though too, but they’re usually pretty proud about calling people out and throwing flour at them.

    Dear Kelis,

I hope that this finds you well. I’m writing today because we’ve been inundated with phone calls and e-mails from folks alerting us to photos of you wearing a fur hat and coat while out in London over the weekend.

Please know that animals killed for their fur endure immense suffering. Foxes, minks, coyotes, and rabbits—and even dogs and cats—are bludgeoned, strangled, genitally electrocuted, and even skinned alive for their pelts. We hope that you’ll take a moment to watch an undercover exposé of fur farms, hosted by Eva Mendes, at http://www.peta.org/FeatureEvaMendes.asp.

If you enjoy the look of fur, renowned designers, including Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Stella McCartney, and Vivienne Westwood, couple fashion with compassion and use only faux fur in their lines. We hope you found this information helpful and will join countless celebrities, like Charlize Theron, Khloe Kardashian, Nia Long, Kid Sister, Pink, and Michelle Obama, in publicly swearing off fur.

    Warm regards,
    PETA

  4. PETA is a ridiculous organization that casts its shadow over real Animal rescue groups that are making a difference in this world. May I add without the insane budget PETA boasts. With that said, Kelis shouldn’t be ignorant enough to say one cause is worth more than another. Why not support both animal and womens issues? Animals continue to suffer greatly because of the fur industry, including the western worlds beloved cats and dogs. It just isn’t necessary to be wearing it any longer. PETA and Kelis have some growing up to do.
