Kim Gordon is the Queen of Cool

"She is all about being practical, comfortable all day long and mixing it with a dose of sci-fi, as if there was another planet she knows about," designer Dorothée Loermann told Rolling Stone in a recent interview about Kim Gordon's work with her label Surface to Air. The Sonic Youth bassist, New York artist, writer and musician is no stranger to fashion design. In the 90's Gordon offered a street wear line called X-Girl and in recent years she teamed up with Urban Outfitters to create Mirror/Dash. With French label Surface to Air, Gordon designed 12 basic wardrobe staples (some of which include markings of Gordon's art). The looks were designed with the modern rock star in mind. "For stage, I like wearing a dress if I’m playing with all boys – like a contrast to the music which can be quite intense," Gordon told Rolling Stone. "But it can’t be a dress that looks like a party dress; it has to have a certain ambiguity."

The preview video shot by Jérémie Rozan follows Gordon through a messy, guitar-filled room while colored smoke billows out from the house. She is posed inside the kitchen, the yard, the basement, in an outstanding orange dress (Gordon's favorite piece in the collection). The video is subtle and strong, much like Gordon herself.
