News__ The Surreal Life

You can’t really slip on a banana peel if it’s glued down, right?

Amsterdam-based artist, Lauren Hillebrandt blends everyday objects with the surreal in an attempt to make them lose their original purpose. “This craving for absurdism,” she explains of her new work titled Flat Landscapes, “comes from my paradoxical feelings towards daily, normal life.” By using photography and paint, Hillebrandt reaches "a point where you can create everything in front of the camera.” These broken rules allow Hillebrandt to escape the exhaustion and banality of the day-to-day. Well, maybe she doesn't fully escape, but you gotta love someone for trying.
