News__ Maia Bergman Spring ’13

So many beads, so many all-nighters

Maia Bergman, recent graduate from Central St. Martin’s School of Design, shows us how a little resourcefulness can go a long way. “Cheap glamour is irresistible,” says Maia, whose elaborate confetti-like dresses turn the humble plastic bead (found at your local dollar store!) into luxe adornments. Using simple shift dresses and oversized tees as her canvases, Maia’s super intricate beadwork is balanced out by the clean lines of her silhouettes. Although Bergman’s patterns seem totally random, her color distributions are actually inspired by bacteria growth found in petri dishes. Leave it to an art student to turn germs into something stunning.
