Martha Cooper is among a small handful of photographers who methodically documented subway graffiti during the 1970s and 1980s. She now has one of the most extensive and significant collections of its kind. Her new book Name Tagging features an assortment of tagged "Hello My Name Is" stickers--the origin of graffiti and street art culture. The book also includes interviews with artists like Claw Money, Zephyr and Neck Face. "Finding an unusual sticker is definitely more challenging than photographing it, but photography is an excellent way of preserving this very ephemeral art form," Martha says. "Tags written with markers on name badges enable the intricacies and aesthetics of their styles to be studied and appreciated - that's what this book is about."
