News__ OOH LA LA! WEIRD!

February 09, 2010 | By

9-year-old Disney Star, Emily Grace Reaves, has just launched a "trendy, sweet, yet edgy" line of teen wear. The line, titled "The Emily Grace Collection," is being distributed by Ooh! La La! Couture! The collection is said to promote "versatile styles" that will "not just appeal to little girls" (the Teen Collection goes up to a size 14). Reaves along with Disney bestie, Noah Cyrus (Miley Cyrus' sister) will be wearing the creations during the Miley Cyrus Wonder World Tour.

People have been labeling the line as lingerie, even comparing the clothes to Lingeriediva.com. Press representative, Terri Tox of Ooh! La La! Couture! told Fox News that the collection is not a lingerie line. “I don’t even know where that word or idea of lingerie came from,” Tox said. Ooh! La La! Couture! may not have intended to come across as anything overtly sexual, but with the bustier tops, leopard prints, Can Can skirts and the promotional shots of the models, teens, girls gathered around a stripper pole it seems a little...weird.

Besides the obvious malfunctions in this designer nightmare, the bigger problem is the message behind this kind of product: the focus is on sexuality. “When a child mimics the look of a teenager or an adult, they are skipping an entire developmental stage. Most of the values that kids learn in order to be able to handle the challenges of adult life are during the ages of 5-12,” Dr. Georgia Witkin told Fox News. “This is when they learn how to judge and how they are perceived. If they begin to believe that their value is based on their looks or their sexiness, it sends a completely wrong message.
