News__ Oprah Lesbian Rumors

December 08, 2010 | By

Oprah Winfrey denied rumors that she is a lesbian yesterday. Fighting back tears, an emotional and obviously irritated Oprah explained her alleged “relationship” with Gayle King during a Barbara Walters interview, which will air on ABC this Thursday.

Gayle and Oprah met on a Baltimore TV Network in the late 80s and have been close friends ever since. “She is the mother I never had. She is the sister everybody would want. She is the friend that everybody deserves. I don’t know a better person,” Oprah said. “It’s making me cry because I’m thinking about how much I probably have never told her that.”

Oprah later stated firmly that, “I am not a lesbian. I’m not even a kind of lesbian. And the reason why it irritates me is because it means that somebody must think I’m lying… Why would you want to hide it? That is not the way I run my life.” Respect.

Why the lesbian rumors about Oprah? Because she is over fifty, single and successful? Cue the age-old double standard where white, upper-middle class men are silver foxes or playboys for life and successful, single women fall down the rabbit hole while being called “dyke” and “spinster” the whole way down. Besides, what if Oprah was gay? Would this be a bad thing? We think not.
