Every Saturday we select a photo from our Flickr pool and feature it right here

Charles Bouchaib is a photographer living in the Loire Valley. The photo above was taken in the north of Spain, near Oviedo. "All the coast is really beautiful and mysterious," Charles says. "I studied environment and landscape. I teach sciences, and I love art."

Charles is especially interested in contemporary photography. "My project is built around a dialectic between the rational and the sensitive. Primitive nature, even sacred, in the pagan sense of the term, inspires me. Without trying to celebrate it, I try to make pictures where this primitive nature appears beautiful or threatening because of its elusiveness. I try to explore the limits of our perception of reality through vegetable and mineral matter."

Charles uses a Fuji GW670, a Mamiya 645 and a rb67 with Kodak Portra film. He prefers film to digital. "I appreciate to print a picture on a physical medium, it is almost a organic and more natural feeling. Above I like the obtainable pastel colors balance."
