Sculpture isn’t just for looking at anymore—now it’s for grinding on

When artist Rich Holland decided to make a statement about the right to public space, he broke the issue wide open with an exhibition named “At First We Take Museums.” The installation, featuring giant sculptures (read: ramps), introduces us to the beauty of skateable surfaces. Holland’s pieces are sleek, shiny and expertly crafted, giving us the pleasure of both seeing and using, which, in a museum, is almost always against the rules. Bravo Rich Holland for making museums a little more fun.

The exhibit is now showing at the Kiasma Museum of Modern Art in Finland.
