Actual becomes virtual

Fatima Al Qadiri's latest concept EP Desert Strike calls upon memories of her childhood growing up in Kuwait during Operation Desert Storm. A few short years later Qadiri owned and played the FPS video game "Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf." This EP is an aural conflation of the disreality of those two planes, actual and virtual dealing with the same objects of violence. Her first single, "Ghost Raid" is named after the F-117A Nighthawk stealth fighter AKA "The Ghost" that was used during bombing raids. Its roving militaristic beats are balanced with the chant-inspired vocals that haunted her first release.
