It's all about Azealia Looks like Azealia forgot to invite Pharrell to her pool party. The Harlem born rapper's new music video for her song "ATM Jam," featuring (but not literally, just vocally) Pharrell Williams, has been released. Director Rony Alwin--a common choice for Azealia's videos--has created a multi-colored world, complete with pool and mansion, for Azealia to party in. We're sorry that you missed the party Pharrell, it looks like the 3 other girls that were there had fun though. Azealia Banks' album Broke With Expensive Taste will be coming out January 2014. Watch Azealia Banks' new music video "ATM Jam" below.
Girl, there's an owl on your head. A further and more in depth look into Azealia Banks' mind than her Twitter battles afford, the official video for "Yung Rapunxel," her first single off her debut album Broke With Expensive Taste, is insane. The video is an eclectic mix of creepy owls, lips as eyes (there's a real eye-centricity?) and a furry bra that's entrancing even amid the twisted imagery. The track with a yelling, angry, manipulated Azealia fits the Jam Sutton video in a way to make the whole thing even creepier. She also rides a mechanical bull at one point so that's worth the view. Huh.
Check out that boat in the back though Azealia Banks has no problems according to her new track and music video. Directed by Rony Alwin who shot that infamous "Harlem Shake" video that kind of made some problems for Banks a couple of weeks ago. The song itself is the conceived brainchild of a beef between Banks and Angel Haze -- remember that? With lyrics like "this new whore/open your mouth and I'll bruise jaws" Banks is a prodigy in the art of subtlety. The video, however, doesn't mention the beef (good), and instead focuses on the behind-the-scenes Ultra Music Festival where Haze performed this year. Wait for the point of view shot where people make way for you (the camera) as security ushers you by. Plus a Steve Aoki cameo. Check it out below. Banks' debut album Broke With Expensive Taste (aren't we all?) comes out this month.
You do you, Azealia Azealia Banks released her remix to the sensational "Harlem Shake" last week--a remix she apparently created months ago before the "Harlem Shake" viral homemade video craze hit. Banks, in her traditional idgaf fashion, released the track and subsequent video despite the pleadings of DJ Baauer, the creator of the electro hit. Baauer understandably had Banks' version removed from Soundcloud in an effort to batten down the hatches. Banks responded by uploading the video featured below to her Twitter. The video is rather monotonous as is Banks' dub and is certainly not radical enough to defend her against a rap community mutiny should she continue her bridge-burning. In a continuing saga of off-handed tweets composed of no more than 140 fighting words, Banks continued the drama she lighted with the release of her track, inviting chastisement from influential celebrity blogger Perez Hilton with gay slurs and defensive one liners. Hilton went so far as to pose Banks the question, "How does it feel to be better known for all your trash talking than your music Azealia?" Decide for yourself. Is the video worth angering Baauer and his more recognizable pal Diplo? Spotted on: Daily Mail
Rap queen Twitter beef The gloves are off in the latest case of rap beef. Things got heated pretty quickly when Angel Haze responded to a tweet that Azealia Banks sent out about non-New Yorkers claiming New York. It took all of about 24 hours for the two to start throwing shade at one another, and to each release a diss track. Only months ago it seemed like the two rap divas were friendly, and even talking about a collaboration. But we all know how quickly things can go South when someone speaks ill on the internet. The best thing about Twitter is that it does away with all the he-said, she-said of an old-fashioned feud. It's all right there for you to see on two timelines. You can read the full back and forth here, but Angel ended up coming off pretty vicious, calling Azealia out for her "charcoal skin" and even her transparent bubble coat (neither of those things are PC, come on now). And Azealia pumped gas like she was the homecoming queen of this year's rap class. "Angel Haze has a crush on me." Actually, it sounds like Angel Haze wants to rip your mermaid weave out. Angel Haze dropped what she says is a Diplo-produced track called "On The Edge" about 20 minutes after their back and forth. (Though it's been reported that Diplo called Azealia to deny his involvement.) It's a chopped up and aggressive takedown of the Young Rapunxel that features blows like: "I want you bitches so scared that you mental break/ So you'll forever be broke with expensive taste." (The name of Azealia's forthcoming album is Broke With Expensive Taste, if you are having trouble keeping up.) Then this afternoon, Azealia put out "No Problem." It's a wobbly tale of Banks' own successes more than a cut to her nemesis. If Haze's diss aims towards a lunch-hour brawl, Azealia's is an eye roll and a hair flip. Listen to the Angel Haze and Azealia Banks' diss tracks below and feel free to chime in. Angel: Azealia:
