AGYNESS DEYN FOR DR. MARTENS

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

Brits on Brits on Brits British model Agyness Deyn has been the face of Doc Martens for a few campaigns now, but this time she's fronting her own designs for the label. And while it's not the most surprising collaboration we've seen yet, we are intrigued by the campaign video, which is less about the clothes and more about capturing the brand's inimitable spirit and tying that in with the UK model.

The plot loosely follows a road trip. Aggy and her gal pal hop in a car, spray paint a wall in an abandoned building,  pool hop in their clothes, ramble through desolate California and dye each other's hair. Just another Saturday hanging out around town, right? The disenchanted youth tip is a little past relevant for a 29-year-old super model, but the film encompasses a beautiful aesthetic, and the clothes had us pausing the film to stare a little closer. It's Brad Pitt/Juliette Lewis and Johnny Depp/Winona Ryder circa '90s re-invented. And judging from our pauses, that means grunge-ified quilted jackets, plaid jumpers, and daisy prints. Oh yeah, and boots.

Doc Martens x Liberty London

Liberty London's romantic florals, take on Doc Martens' tough guy boots and loafers Liberty London is setting us up nicely for summer. After masterminding paisley prints for Nike, they're onto the next big thing--this time staying on their own soil and showering Doc Martens 3-hole shoes and 8-hole boots in variable blooms and birds. Aside from the fact that these are both UK-based brands, the duo make for a very unlikely combo, operating in opposing aesthetic worlds. But Liberty's touch of femininity smoothes out Doc Marten's invariable toughness and vice versa. In other words, it's a match-up made in shoe heaven. These 'wild nature' 30s-style floral settings remind of those Little Golden Books we used to have read to us when were kids. And in cased you sensed something a little mischievous about the patterns, it's because the designers took inspiration from William Morris' famous repeating Strawberry Thief textile. The summer wishlist continues to grow... See more from the Liberty London x Doc Martens Summer 2012 collaboration below.
