Giordano_Photography

Every Saturday we select a photo from our Flickr pool to be featured on hearty

Giordano is a photographer who lives and works in Berlin. Back in 1998, when Giordano was a punk he started doing fanzines–although he still feels he is a punk. The photo above was taken at Tempelhof, Berlin.  It used to be an airport. Giordano uses a diverse selection of cameras, his favorites are a Mercury Univex II and the Zenit 3M.Come next year, Giordano will be having an exhibition in England and hopes to have another one in Berlin some months later.

To see more of Giordano’s work, please check out his Flickr and his website.

Arts & Leisure Pop-Up Shop

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

The new Arts & Leisure shop, popped up last night in L.A.

Last night, New York took over L.A. in the best way imaginable. We attended the opening of Arts & Leisure, a pop-up shop at Space Fifteen Twenty in Hollywood. The almighty astrology goddess Susan Miller, and mother of SOPHOMORE owner and past hearty “The Come Up” Chrissie Miller, blessed us with all the astrological advice one could wish for (Is Mercury done being in retrograde yet?) and Greg Krelenstein of the Misshapes, handled the 1′s and 2′s, while we ate delicious treats and drank what tasted like expensive drinks–think really fruity and tasty.

The Arts & Leisure pop-up shop features designs by  SOPHOMORE, Pamela Love, United Bamboo, Pleasure Principle, illesteva and more. As well as art by Ryan Forester, Wes Lang, Andrew Kuo and Harmony Korine. Time to get NY in L.A!

Happy Birthday to Us!

Friday, March 18th, 2011

We’re two! Yah, we can’t believe it either. Over the past two years we have interviewed Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, collaborated with Jeff Staple on sticker, made a mixtape with Mayer Hawthorne, and featured lots of awesome and inspiring people, really too many to list here (although you can see all our back issues here. Scroll down!) and had loads of fun. Here’s a toast to hearty, even though it’s still morning.

Read our very first post here from March 18, 2009.

A Dam Valentine

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

You may know Dam Funk as the man that’s bringing Funk back–but we now know him as romantic. Stones Throw just released a video, shot last night of Dam Funk, singing an acoustic version of his track “I Wanna Thank You.” When it comes to serenades and romance, these Stones Throw cats aren’t messing around, in fact we’re pretty sure all the men featured on their Valentine’s Day podcast would make ideal Valentine’s Day dates. The podcast features Stones Throw’s finest Mayer Hawthorne, Peanut Butter Wolf, James Pants, J-Rocc and of course Dam Funk. Boys, men, husbands, players, aspiring lovers, take notes from these Stones Throw boys.

Karen O Serpentine

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

We all have some skeletons dangling in our closets but we’d rather they take a permanent vacation from our “walk-ins” to appear in a beautiful black and white video. Off their third album, It’s Blitz!, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs release their new video for their song “Skeletons.” Designer Christian Joy  is responsible for Karen O’ s enchanting dress, which was inspired by modern dancer Loie Fuller’s Serpentine Dress (show below).

White Lung Escapes Olympics

White Lung – Atlanta from Ryan D. Anderson on Vimeo.

We’ve got some bad girls on our team, and by bad we mean bad ass. hearty writer Mish Way is the front lady of a rad band called White Lung. Escaping from Vancouver BC for the madness of what the Winter Olympics will be, White Lung is heading on a West coast tour collecting their own kinds of medals along the way by snatching up hearts during the course of their shredding guitar sets. We’re closet White Lung fans (guess the secret is out now) it probably doesn’t help that we love Mish already,  they’re absolute babes and we’ve been watching this video for their song Atlanta on repeat, the bass line is hypnotizing. Check for a tour date near you here.
