Crush Our Velvet Dreams

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

The Alexander Wang Hannah Loafers feature a little bit of velvet going a long way--up your leg that is.

We think it's safe to say that not so long ago we probably wouldn't wear velvet. The fabric was mainly reserved when we wanted to dress up like medieval characters--which was not that often. But velvet has made it's way into our hearts, closets and on to our footwear, even the crushed version. From the Alexander Wang Hanna Loafers  to Opening Ceremony's W1 shoe, we've rounded up six velvet shoes that we're crushing on right now.

Jeffrey Campbell Fall 2011

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

Super thick platforms, chunky wedges and bright gem-toned fabrics are standard for any Jeffrey Campbell collection but these fall 2011 shoes introduce new textiles with a Western flair. The Giddy-Up boot, for example, is rodeo meets living room wallpaper and the Pixie-Patch turns the classic Pixie wedge into a pastel patchwork circus. These kicks are definitely not wallflower-friendly, just the way we like them. There's even more selection to come for fall 2011 because this lookbook is part one of a two-part series. Called, "Uptown Girl," the season's first half is for the "classy, vintage, central park, Madison Ave, and so very NYPL." The second half, aka Part II, will naturally be called, "Downtown Girl" and we can't wait to see what those shoes are like. Scope out images from the lookbook below and see the rest on the Jeffrey Campbell website.

Patriot Feet

Thursday, April 28th, 2011
Jeffrey Campbell El Carmen Platform in American Flag America in our hearts, in our minds, on our feet. These 5-inch Jeffrey Campbell El Carmen platforms combine the perfect balance of sex appeal and patriotism in a way that would make Monica Lewinsky proud. At $130 they won't break the bank and since it's not even May yet, you have plenty of time to get them before fourth of July festivities. Cue the fireworks. See more pictures of the Jeffrey Campbell El Carmen platforms below. Spotted on: Nasty Gal

Spring ’11 Kicks

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Pandora platforms by Surface to Air, Canvas Gum Boot Heel by Cooperative, Garcelle wedges by Michael Antonio Studio, Dakota Lace-up Bootie by Alexander Wang
Our picks for spring '11 kicks! It's about that time of year when things get slushy as it gets sunshiny. You're going to need something between snow boots and sandals, and we've got some suggestions. This season's offering of kicks are lace-up, thick-soled and neutral-toned. Cooperative's Canvas Gum Heel Boot wins the award for hitting all the bases. Alexander Wang's Dakota Lace-up Bootie only lost out because our credit cards made a kettle-like screaming noise when they saw the price tag.
Bimini heels by Rachel Comey, Harlow wedges by Jeffrey Campbell, Lace Up Corset Clog by No6 Store
For spring 2011, we love how wedges and sturdy clog-style heels give lift without making us wobble--a more practical alternative to spiky stilettos. No. 6 Store's Lace Up Corset Clog and Matiko's Modern Cutout Wedge are stellar examples of shoes that look comfy enough to hike in, and by "hike" we mean, take the stairs instead of the escalator. However, if you're rocking those Surface to Air's Pandora platforms, take the elevator.
Modern Cutout Wedge by Matiko, Lily Velcro Sandal by Dr. Martens for Opening Ceremony, Joelle boot by Opening Ceremony
Our favorite part about these transitional shoes is how well they go with socks or tights for cooler days, but are bare-foot ready for warmer ones. We are digging those cut-outs on Jeffrey Campbell's Harlow Wedge and Michael Antonio's Garcelle wedges. For a pop of color, we love Opening Ceremony's Joelle Ankle Clog Bootie and their collaboration with Dr. Martens (even though the Lily Velcro Sandal is technically for fall). Lastly, those Rachel Comey Bimini heels are so damn sophisticated we think we might actually become classier just by putting them on, as if that's possible.

Jeffrey Campbell Fall 2010

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Jeffrey Campbell--king of the hidden wedge and the knock-off Chanel clog--has a new magazine-style lookbook for his fall 2010 collection. There's also a video lookbook directed by Andrea Cruz and shot at OAK in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. It features morose cello music, phone calls from the bathtub and a wandering plot that has something to do with kidnapping a male model. There's nothing particularly crazy when it comes to the shoes, but they get it right with studs, brogue-style lace-ups and wooden platforms. Additional bonuses: Jeffrey Campbell's shoes are wearable, affordable and easy to walk in (unlike other brands in the same price range...Aldo, I'm looking at you). Check out the video above, images from the lookbook below and the website for more.

Jeffrey Campbell Last Call

Monday, January 25th, 2010
Jeffrey Campbell's Spring/Summer 2010 collection is titled, Last Call, and is inspired by creatures of the night. Not like creepy horror movie types, but more like you at 4am still in the club.  Below, see images from the S/S '10 lookbook and the Tick Zebra Mondo Wedge (which is covered in real thumb tacks) featured on Nicki Minaj in the new Young Money video for Bed Rock.
