Grace Coddington’s Drawings

Grace Coddington's quirky take on life in drawings

Ever since we saw The September Issue, those of us that were not yet familiar with Vogue’s orange-headed Creative Director, fell in love with Grace Coddington. Her memoir Grace will be released this November (did someone say good stocking stuffer?) and the book will feature some of Coddington's wonderful illustrations. "She is well-known for sketching looks as they come down the runway from her front-row perch during fashion week," Vogue.com says. "But her drawings also take on a distinctly personal, and often humorous, tone." The illustrations will cover memories from her childhood to her work as a model and an editor to her great loves, which, of course, include her cats. Get a preview of Grace Coddington's illustrations to be featured in her new book Grace here.

Dollar Stories by Tulip Parlor

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012
One dollar per a story. One story per a book. The idea behind Dollar Stories is sort of a backwards interpretation of 99 cent purchases on iTunes. Moving away from digital to tangible, stories are printed monthly on bright colored pocket sized paper and sold for a dollar. "My co-founder Peter Cavanaugh and I have been printing things together since high school," Galen DeKempner of Tulip says. "We met while running on rival cross country teams." Officially forming Tulip while in college, the pair ensure each author receives a fair portion of the sales. 34 cents of each story sale goes to the author. The other 66 cents is split between printing and vending costs. Dollar Stories are sold in small shops around America and online. Some of the locations include custom painted stands like in American Two Shot and Labor Skateshop in New York. Galen also sells copies by hand.

Ryan McGinley’s New Book

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

Ryan Mcginley's first major monograph In 2000, after showing in an abandoned SoHo gallery, one of the handmade books Ryan Mcginley created for the show made its way into the hands of Sylvia Wolf, then a curator of photography at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Three years later Ryan Mcginley was the youngest artist to ever have a solo show at the museum. Now, almost a decade later, Mcginley's career is being chronicled in its entirety in his first major monograph. In Ryan McGinley: Whistle for the Wind the photographer's work is considered by three extraordinary talents: Chris Kraus, John Kelsey and Gus Van Sant. Each, through their own lens, offer perspective on Mcginley's work. Ryan Mcginley: Whistle for the Wind is available today via Rizzoli. See a preview of the book below.

POT PSYCHOLOGY BOOK

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012
The smartest stoners around We are excited to hear Jezebel's infamous sex advice program "Pot Psychology" is coming out with a book called, How To Be: Lowbrow Advice From High People. Created by Tracie Egan-Morrissey and Rich Juzwiak, we expect this book will be just as entertaining (if not more) than the series. You all remember Pot Psychology, right? It went like this: Tracie and Rich would get really, really stoned and then answer sex questions that random viewers had written in. Usually they would film the show in a walk-in closet or Tracie's bedroom. Sometimes they would have guests like ex-Top Model contestants and stuff, but the guests would usually get too stoned to deal. Tracie recently had a baby and Rich is busy with his job at Gawker, so Pot Psychology has been dead for a while now. But, they've dusted off the bongs to bring us the book this November and a promise of new episodes in May.
