hearty blogger DJ SOSUPERSAM put together a list we know will make you feel a little better. Play one or all, repeat and call us in the evening. Check out DJ SOSUPERSAM's hearty hangover playlist below. HEARTY HANGOVER PLAYLIST BY DJ SOSUPERSAM Beach House - Zebra Ah, Beach House. Ever so soothing, and best paired with a cup of chamomile tea. James Blake - The Wilhelm Scream Ambient and mild, and James Blake kind of sounds like he has a hangover too. Stevie Wonder - Hey Love Stevie Wonder is one of my all-time favorite artists of ever. His voice automatically brightens my mood if I'm feeling crummy. Arcade Fire - Wake Up This is that song, especially the last minute and a half when the drum pattern changes, that will help get your ass out of bed and on time to your 3pm brunch to recap last night's shenanigans. Sunglasses and Advil anyone? Etta James - A Sunday Kind of Love Perfect for a Sunday hangover, but will work just fine every other day of the week. Florence + the Machine - Take Care (Drake cover) I love Gil Scott-Heron, Jamie XX, Drake and Rihanna, but I'm really into this cover that Florence + the Machine recently did on BBC Radio. Deniece Williams - Free The intro of "Free" is so delicate and pretty. Also take one look at how fly Deniece Williams is on the cover of this album ("This is Niecy"). Her floral dress against the matching floral wallpaper will cure your hangover. The woman was fierce. Jamie Cullum - Frontin' (Pharrell cover) Jamie Cullum makes me melt with this jazzy cover. (For the record, Pharrell also makes me melt.) Play this in bed while checking last night's drunk calls/texts/tweets/instagrams/facebook updates. Al Green - I'm Still in Love With You During a trip to SF, I remember nursing a hangover one morning at Eddie's Cafe, this soul food spot that also secretly serves kimchee (yes, kimchee!). They literally played an hour's worth of Al Green hits and it was THE BEST THING EVER. Al Green wins. Otis Redding - That's How Strong My Love Is Oooooooootis. That is all. Hysteric (acoustic version) - Yeah Yeah Yeahs The It's Blitz! album reminds me of the epic happy times of summer 2009. And this song in particular got me through a lot of LA rush hour traffic without losing my mind, so I assume we can also apply it to hangovers. Talking Heads - This Must Be the Place Upbeat yet still easy on the ears. Talking Heads is sure to get you over the hangover hump. Doris Troy - Just One Look The jam. "Just One Look" reached new heights of awesome when it was included in the soundtrack for "Crazy Stupid Love." And we all know that Ryan Gosling's abs cure cancer right? I meannn. Try listening to any or all of the above for a cure to your hangover.
Introducing our new blogger So Super Sam with a Q + A Photos by: Taylor Okata Our new blogger comes to us all the way from California. Literally. Recently leaving behind her tacos and fruit stands, Samantha Duenas aka DJ So Super Sam has joined us out here in the rotten apple. We welcome her to the city and also to our team of hearty bloggers and look forward to reading her posts which she promises will have a lot to do with cheese. We like cheese. Get to know our new super blogger via some super questions in our Q + A with So Super Sam below. Check out her blog on the regular. Stay tuned for an upcoming playlist from her. Tell us what is so super about Sam: "I'm all that and then some! Short, dark, and handsome!" No I'm just sort of an amalgamation of different interests put together neatly in a fun-sized package that I like to call "so super". How and when did you start DJing? I started DJing 3 years ago when a friend of mine was selling his set up for a really really really, I mean really good price. My mentor, DJ Remitch, lent me a bunch of vinyl and I haven't looked back since. The very first 2 records I ever blended together were "Free" by Deniece Williams into "I Like It" by Debarge. What's been your biggest gig so far? My biggest gig so far was playing for a sold out Terminal 5 NYC, where I opened for rapper Childish Gambino. It was BEYOND! What's been your favorite gig so far? Ahhh I have so many favorites! One that stands out is the night I played at U31 in San Diego for a Hellz "Ladies Night" party. It was one of those magical nights where every song hit with the crowd for 90 minutes straight. DJs live for those nights. How do you normally respond to the question "Will you play [INSERT ANNOYING SONG HERE]?" "The DJ after me said he was going to play it!"
